I just won another online tournament

Well I seem to be on a roll in online tournaments even though I can't seem to find my ass from a hole in the wall in the Poker Frog tournaments. This time I won a tournament with over $700 players and netted $728!!!

This tournament was a $5 buy in "Turbo" tournament. I don't play those much but I may start more and more. Instead of the customary 8 or 12 minute blind escalations the blinds escalate every 3 minutes. And remember unlike our home game the blind escalations are very very steep, usually doubling each round or two.

In this kind of tournament I try to play alot of hands early before the blinds get out of hand and I got lucky a couple of times and got some donkeys to give me all their chips. Because of the size of the tournament the top 80 were paid. I was able to get into the top 40 pretty easily but the blinds had escalated so much by that point you were easily going to go all in in any hand, and better be prepared to. I limped into the top 20 but was in 18th place and the blinds were almost half my chip stack. i won several hands all in and made it to the final table as the chip leader. I took out like 5 straight players and finally got the table to succumb to my chip stack.

Pretty cool, and the money does not hurt either. My goal is to win enough of a bankroll to start playing some of the qualifier tournaments for the WSOP next Spring and win a ticket to the 2007 WSOP. We will see if I can keep it up.

Final countdown...

Here it is, the last tournament of the regular season... just a point seperating the top two in the standings.

This tournament will really serve to separate the wheat from the Democrat of the Year.

Let's get it ON!!!

Hmm... where do we stand?

Hmmm... been a couple weeks, but still no update of the standings on the Poker Frog website... hmmm... let's see here... it looks like... oh, yes... it seems that I've pulled in just one point behind the host himself... could this be why we're dragging our feet on updating the standings? Conspiracy? Hmmm... I mean, it's not like he's been busy with a mayoral campaign, directorial auditions, and a Floridian vacation... let's get on the ball here!

Heh heh... seriously, though... any news or thoughts about the next game? I know December might be very ugly for people, but I'm not looking forward to a two month gap. Maybe an alternative, non-sanctioned game can be held if a Frog game isn't possible - maybe at our place. And besides, that will give Mark a chance to win another game, since it won't count. :-)

All quiet... let's take a look at the standings

Well, it's been so quiet here, it's about time someone posted, and I might as well be it.

After all the discussion last season about points, a very wise and even-handed system was adopted for season two awarding 4 points to a win, 3 to second place, 2 to third place, and 3 to a fourth place. We're now two games into the season, and some interesting effects have happened. As imaginable at this point, there is a tie at the top for first place between our two winners; new to the mix, though, I join them with two third place finishes that equal a first... if last year's system had been in place, I wouldn't even be in the running. Similarly, Dustin remains on the boards and only two points out of the lead with two fourth place finishes - which would have yielded nothing in last year's system as well.

Interesting to note the differences... if last year's system was in effect, it would be Michelle and Heather tied for first (2 pts. each) and Pam and Kimberly tied for next position (3rd with 1 pt. each). Instead, it's Michelle, Heather, and me tied for first (4 pts. each), Pam and Kimberly tied for next position (4th with 3 pts. each), and Dustin sneaking onto the board in 6th (2 pts.).

So, basically, the new system has made the difference between first place and no place for me, and on the board and off the board for Dustin - but no other difference so far. Heh heh heh... let me officially say I am in favor of the new system... heh heh.

This proposal calls for a sliding point scale for three different types of tournaments, Small, medium, & large. The points for each tournament and their tournament size are as follows:

2.) An Alteration to the Season Standings Proposal by Mark Allen Holt

Points are awarded based on the number of players at the table. (12 Players at the table, winner gets 12 points, 5 players at table, winner gets 5 points. etc.) and each place lower gets one less point. eg.

5 players
1st place 5 pts
2nd place 4 pts
3rd place 3 pts
4th place 2 pts
5th place 1 pt

The Poker Frog Committee will determine the seat size for the final tournament at a later date if this proposal is adopted. The highest point winners will qualify for the final table.

Committee members are instructed to vote only once by posting a comment in this thread. Please only chose ONE proposal.

Season 2 Proposal Results

The official voting Results:

Proposal 1 Alteration to Season Standing proposal by Dustin M. Czarny 4 yea votes, 2 nay votes Passes must go to run off vote*

Proposal 2 Alteration to Grand Championship Qualifier by Dustin M. Czarny 6 yea votes Passes Enacted with qualification**

Proposal 3 Alteration to Total Chip Amount for Tournaments by Dustin M. Czarny 6 yea votes Passed and will be enacted at next Regular Season Tournament

Proposal 4 Alteration to Season Standing by Pam Hipius 6 yea votes Passes must go to run off vote*

Proposal 5 Alteration to Annual Trophy Names 6 yea votes Passed and enacted immediately

Proposal 6 Alteration to Season Standing by Mark Holt 4 yea votes 2 nay votes Passed and must go to run off vote*

*Since 3 Season Standings proposals passed all three must got to a run off vote. The old rule is automatically discarded. One of these rules will replace the old rule. If no proposal garners 4 or more votes the proposal with the lowest vote total will be discarded and another vote will occur. If the vote is equally deadlocked then a draw of highcard at the next regular season poker frog tournament or at some other point will determine the winner. The card will be drawn by the proposers.

**One of the Season Standings proposals requires the Committee to determine a number of places at the final table and have the top number Regular Season Standings proposals qualify. Since this is in direct contradiction with this current proosal we must wait until the determination of the Regular Season standings proposals. This rule will stand unless that proposal is passed. Then we will have to vote on the number of seats allowed.

I will open a voting thread on all three proposals on Monday June 27, 2005 at 12:00 am . Votes will be due by Wednesday June 29 at 11:59 p.m. In the meantime you can discuss the proposals pros and cons in this thread.

The July Poker Frog Date

Heather and I would like to offer up Saturday July 23rd at 7 p.m. as the date for the Season 2 opener of the Poker Frog. Heather and I really feel that Saturdays are better days for this event. It is hard after getting out of work on Friday to get home and get everything ready. What are the committee's thoughts on dates?
